Brewster Ladies Library
Sierra Club Cape Cod Group is hosting a forum beginning at 6:30 pm on June 7 that will consider whether the state and the Cape are doing enough to address solid waste management challenges. To be held at Brewster Ladies’ Library, the forum will feature two speakers: Kirstie Pecci, who leads the Conservation Law Foundation’s Zero Waste Project, and Kari Parcell, who is the Cape’s regional recycling coordinator, working through the Barnstable County’s Cooperative Extension Program and the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection.
In addition, a panel will focus on successful and emerging solutions, including the pay-as-you-throw programs adopted by Sandwich and Brewster (Patrick Ellis); Provincetown’s bans of bags, straws, and other materials (Laura Ludwig); and Yarmouth’s plans for a regional digester for diverting organics (Jeff Colby/Roby Whitehouse).
The same topics will be addressed earlier in the day, at a workshop focused on helping municipal officials learn about best practices and success stories from other communities. For more information on the municipal workshop, contact Kari Parcell at kari.parcell@barnstablecounty.org.
